The syllabic system was first adopted for Inuktitut in 1865, though as you may well imagine it took some time to be disseminated into widespread usage.Russell Potterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11023313195827310776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873756940955163469.post-19237442937217940682017-07-19T01:05:08.354-07:002017-07-19T01:05:08.354-07:00I went yesterday, and also found the repurposed it...I went yesterday, and also found the repurposed items fascinating ~ perhaps especially the ulu knife as I'd just read about how they weren't supposed to be sharpened in summer ~ but three things touched me most of all: the Victory Point Record (although I would like to have seen a full text reproduction next to it); what I can only describe as an electronic map of the Arctic as known to Europeans before the 16th century, which charted each discovery by each named expedition ~ fascinating, especially to see Captain Cook whizzing up from the Pacific side and lastly to see and hear Louie Kamookak speaking in English and Inuit (plus Inuit script ~ when was that devised?)Brounthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06914285424964516814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3873756940955163469.post-22759730290483733122017-07-10T06:24:51.614-07:002017-07-10T06:24:51.614-07:00The repurposed artifacts are always a sense of int...The repurposed artifacts are always a sense of interest to me, seeing how someone could take an object and apply it to their own more immediate use. That is a story unto itself!
Up until last year, we had all believed the Terror would be found crushed. Its discovery (first impressions anyway) would tend to run contrary to that. My reaction wasn't that the testimony was wrong, but I re-read it to see where my misunderstanding lay! It will be interesting to see how that will all fit together.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08685387404989395574noreply@blogger.com
